Six vultures found dead in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: A total of 6 vultures were found dead in Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district on Friday. The carcass of the birds were recovered at a paddy field known as Pagali Pothar of Bagisa Gaon under Dhakuakhana Police Station. As per report, a youth named Ranjan Chetia noticed the carcasses of the birds near a carcass of a dog lying at the paddy field. He informed the matter to Dhrubajyoti Chetia, who is working for environmental protection. Then Dhrubajyoti, along with his three friends named Rantu Chetia, Biman Hundique and Manash Pratim Dutta rushed at the place and recovered the carcasses of the birds. They also recovered two more vultures in critical condition and shifted them to the forest office concerned for treatment. The two vultures were free of danger at the time of filing this report. The vultures and the dog were suspected to be dead due to food poisoning, which has saddened the nature lovers.
